The Depot Pollinator Garden

The Depot Garden, built and maintained by the Lake Minnetonka Garden Club, is an educational garden built to help members of the community see the various native plants that can be grown in our Minnesota gardens.  This garden displays a combination of perennials, annuals and bulbs that are both native plants and cultivars of those varieties that grow well in Minnesota.

As the Lake Minnetonka Garden Club workers are at the garden, there are three guiding principles we use to focus our work:

  • Pollinators first – We pay attention to the plants that are best suited for pollinators. We consider pollinators in all the things we plant at the depot.
  • Color and interest – We try to maintain color throughout the growing season, and garden interest even after the summer season is done.
  • Mindful of scale – While a garden is constantly changing, we are ever mindful of the scale of the plants with respect to the surrounding areas.  The original garden plan is edited as we see the mature size of some of the plants.

This page lists of the plants grown in the Depot Garden as well as a list of garden centers that sell the various natives in this garden. We try to maintain labels of the plants on-site.

Garden Location
